Second Meeting of the Healthcare Business Office Chapter

The chapter held its second meeting while at The 2006 Outsourcing World Summit, on Monday, February 20th from 9:00 – 11:00 am in the conference center of Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Orlando, Florida.

For this first in-person meeting, the chapter continued to look at the gap between payer and provider in the industry, how these challenges are affecting end users, vendors and advisors and what options are on the horizon to begin to decrease the divide.

Inaugural Meeting of the Healthcare Business Office Chapter  - Chairman’s Summary

The Healthcare Business Office Chapter of IAOP, bringing together end users, consultants and vendors working directly in the healthcare field, held its first meeting on September 29Th, 2005 via teleconference and web-seminar.

Chapter Chair Suresh Yannamani welcomed more than 50 outsourcing professionals to the inaugural meeting of the chapter, expressed his appreciation for the excitement and energy in IAOP thus far and shared the mission of the organization. Mr. Yannamani also introduced the guest speakers for the event, including Michael Corbett from IAOP and Linda Pollnow, Vice President of Physician and Hospital Interface for WellPoint.

After Michael Corbett provided an overview of the outsourcing industry and IAOP, Linda Pollnow presented on bridging the payer and provider gap in the healthcare industry. Linda walked through challenges WellPoint sought to alleviate as well as initiatives to keep in mind as healthcare continues to move forward into 2006.  Linda’s presentation also touched on managing claim attachments, leveraging the available technology and exploring Joint Ventures aimed at bringing the two sides of healthcare together.

Jeni Grasman from LASON wrapped up the meeting with the encouragement to submit ideas, thoughts and suggestions to IAOP in order for the group to continue to grow and remain topically focused for 2006. Topic suggestions may be sent to her directly at jgrasman@lason.com.

Details for the next chapter meeting, tentatively scheduled for the end of December, will be forthcoming.

Chapter Mission

The mission of the chapter is to provide an integration of the payer and provider community within the business office functions of healthcare and to provide a forum for interaction. The primary goal of the healthcare business office chapter is to educate the user community in outsourcing services and promote information sharing by industry leaders in areas like market analysis, technology innovation and process improvement.

As a result, the participants in the chapter would follow healthcare through electronic medical record on the provider side to claims processing and adjudication on the payer side, all linking healthcare revenue cycle management together. This chapter will not focus on front-office aspects of payer or provider.
The chapter will provide thought leadership through the network of certified professionals, publications, relevant industry organizations and research initiatives.
