On arrival, guests were served with drinks, generously hosted by Business Catalyst International. Opening the session, Assist Chair Khalil Allahwala welcomed the guests, presented the agenda and introduced Zia Qureshi, IAOP's Chairman of the Australian Chapter and the CEO of Business Catalyst International. Zia welcomed the outsourcing professionals and expressed his appreciation for the great turnout. Discussing the importance of having a platform for Outsourcing Professionals, Zia said, "Few people, even within the business community, realize the size and scope of the field of outsourcing." According to Dun & Bradstreet, companies now spend more than US $4 trillion a year on outsourcing. Yet, before IAOP, there was no global professional body bringing its thousands of practitioners together, taking the lead in developing and promoting professional standards, and serving as an advocate for the work being done. "IAOP is doing just that." Michael F. Corbett, IAOP's Global Executive Director, in his recorded welcoming address, said, "Our goal is to help ensure that outsourcing continues to grow as a profession and as an industry, and most importantly, to make sure it delivers the value businesses expect and need.” He said the active support of leading organizations like Business Catalyst and many others all around the world is the key for IAOPs success. Explaining the key objectives, Zia said that the Australian Chapter of IAOP will play a key role in highlighting the issues, challenges, and standards of practice in this emerging profession that is rapidly becoming one of the leading professions in the global business world. The Chapter’s primary focus is to build on the Vision and the Mission of IAOP to bring dynamic content, interesting discussion and networking opportunities to all outsourcing professionals for customers, providers and advisors. It will provide a forum for sharing ideas, experiences and issues across the industry and help its members to be recognized and highly regarded among the business community. Following Zia’s presentation, Khalil, the Assist Chair presented the proposed structure of the Chapter, its committees, and an initial action plan. He also announced that the next meeting will held in February after IAOP World Summit.
