CHAPTER CHAIRS

Stay tuned for 2008 meeting schedule and details!

Chairman’s Summary – Inaugural Meeting:

Thank you for joining us at the inaugural meeting of the IAOP Southern California Chapter that was held on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 chaired by PA Consulting Group, and hosted by The Center for Telecom Management and The High Tech Association at USC Marshall School of Business.
The meeting included information on:

Finding the Sweet Spot on Developing and Delivering Premium Online content: Build, Buy or Partner?

Next Generation Networks and convergence technologies have changed the dynamics of Communications, Media and Entertainment ecosystem by ushering in new services, applications and go to market approaches. In order to succeed, businesses need to find their sweet spot on leveraging core capabilities and obtaining competences through acquisition, sourcing, building or partnership. Further, they need an integrated ecosystem strategy that addresses the following questions:

What characteristics do end-users seek in content they are willing to pay a premium for? How do you build the right capabilities into your offerings?

  • What are the costs and benefits of sourcing (ie, building, buying, partnering or a combination) the desired capabilities?
  • Does the delivery medium (whether wireless or wire line) affect the optimal approach to delivery?
  • Who are the key content development and delivery players in the ecosystem?
  • What are the revenue models?
  • How do you pick the right partners?
  • How do you manage relationships?
  • How do you know when to exit/end partnership?

    About CTM:
The Center for Telecom Management (CTM) is an industry-sponsored Center of Excellence within USC's Marshall School of Business, focused on the Network Digital Industry. Founded in 1985, CTM bridges the academic and business worlds in the NDI, and offers a unique resource of ideas, people, and knowledge to advance the emerging business ecosystem created by the convergence of new digital technologies, products, services and content distributed over broadband and wireless networks.

    About HTA:

The High Tech Association provides students with opportunities to learn from and network with
Marshall alumni, faculty and successful leaders in high technology industries. The HTA also works with Marshall faculty and industry experts to enhance students' understanding of the strategic implications that the widespread dispersion of technology -- in its many forms -- has had on business.
