International Association of Outsourcing Professionals™ Forms Central America Chapter
Inaugural meeting in September to focus on latest research on global talent
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y., Aug. 20, 2008 – Companies considering Central America as an outsourcing destination will hear the latest research on global talent at the kick-off meeting of the newest International Association of Outsourcing Professionals’ (IAOP™) chapter.
The IAOP Central America chapter will hold a day-long meeting on Sept. 11 at the InterContinental Hotel in Nicaragua. It is the first in a series of meetings bringing outsourcing professionals together to network that will rotate throughout countries in the region.
The chapter meeting will be held at the hotel, Costado Sur Centro Comercial, Metrocentro Carretera, Managua, Nicaragua. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the program starting at 9 a.m. The event includes lunch and a networking session from 5 to 6 p.m.
The latest research findings on the global movement of knowledge workers and the implications for Latin America will be presented by keynote speaker Dr. Arie Lewin of Duke University Fuqua School Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER).
A panel discussion will feature experts from leading international outsourcing suppliers and customers reacting to the findings and implications of Dr. Lewin’s groundbreaking work. The panel will be followed by a discussion on human-capital development strategies for the region led by Lori Blackman, president of DNL Global and chair of the IAOP Human Capital Chapter.
“This is a milestone event for the region,” said Chris Disher, president of Chris Disher & Associates and chair of the IAOP Central America chapter. “Central America has the resources and potential to be a nearshore destination of choice for U.S., Canadian and European companies growing their global footprint.”
“Through this new chapter, IAOP can bring the outsourcing training, certifications, expertise and visibility needed to expand and develop the outsourcing capabilities in each country in this region,” he said. “As this is the first meeting for the chapter, we will continue the discussion at future meetings hosted in each of the participating Central American countries.”
ProNicaragua, the Nicaraguan Investment Promotion Agency, will provide an overview on the status of outsourcing and nearshoring in Nicaragua. The non-profit economic development agency has made the creation of outsourcing jobs a top priority. A tour of several ProNicaragua call center locations in various stages of operation will follow on Sept. 12.
The IAOP Central America Chapter meeting is free and open to users, advisors and providers of outsourcing services who are individual or corporate members of IAOP. Non-members are invited to attend as a guest of IAOP. Click here to request a guest pass.
